There are two ways of installing OptiFine:
Option 1
Step 1: Go to https://optifine.net/downloads on your computer’s web browser.
Step 2: Select “Download” situated to the right of the top OptiFine link under the “OptiFine HD Ultra” heading.
Step 3: Hold on for 5 seconds, then click SKIP AD in the top-right corner of the screen, also you may first need to click “Continue” on the ad-blocker warning.
Step 4: Click the “Download OptiFine link” situated in the middle of the page.
Step 5: Click “Keep or Allow” in case, your browser warns you that OptiFine might be dangerous.
Step 6: Make sure you update Minecraft as of August which is the latest version.
Option 2:
If you are not able to install using above steps or you have a version of OptiFine which is too old and not adaptable to the above process, we have another way you can try with and run in your Minecraft game.
Step 1: Go to the official launcher to download and start Minecraft 1.6.2.
Step 2: Go to the Minecraft base folder which will be shown in the official launcher when you click “Edit Profile” and “Game Directory”
Step 3: Now go to the “Versions” subfolder
Step 4: Change the name from “1.6.2” folder to “1.6.2_OptiFine” for convenience.
Step 5: Go into “1.6.2_OptiFine” subfolder
Step 6: Change its name from “1.6.2.jar” to “1.6.2_OptiFine.jar”
Step 7: Again, change from “1.6.2.json” to “1.6.2_OptiFine.json”
Step 8: Open the file “1.6.2_OptiFine.json” using a text editor
Step 9: Switch “id”:”1.6.2″ with “id”:”1.6.2_OptiFine”
Step 10: Now save the file
Step 11: Replicate (Copy) the files from the “OptiFine ZIP file” in “1.6.2_OptiFine.jar” as usual
Step 12: Delete the META-INF folder from “1.6.2_OptiFine.jar”.
Step 13: Open the official launcher
Step 14: Click “Edit Profile”
Step 15: Choose “Use version: release 1.6.2_OptiFine”
Step 16: Click on “Save Profile”
Step 17: Click “Play” or “Login” to begin with the game.
If only “Play Offline” is available, then log out and log in once again to fix it.
You will have to follow different protocol if you will be installing the OptiFine 1.12.1 update if you have got Minecraft with Forge installed. Here are the step wise instructions for this protocol:
Installing OptiFine to Minecraft with Forge
Step 1: Go to the official launcher to download and start Minecraft 1.6.2
Step 2: Work with the Forge installer to set up Forge
Step 3: Go to the Minecraft base folder
Step 4: Then go to “Versions” subfolder
Step 5: Then go to subfolder “Forge9.10.X.Y”
Step 6: Copy all the files from the OptiFine ZIP file to “Forge9.10.X.Y.jar”
Step 7: Delete the META-INF folder from “Forge9.10.X.Y.jar”
Step 8: Launch the official launcher
Step 9: Select profile “Forge”
Step 10: Then click “Edit Profile”
Step 11: Select in that, the checkbox “JVM Arguments”
Step 12: After that add in the field next to it,”-Dfml.ignoreInvalidMinecraftCertificates=true -Dfml.ignorePatchDiscrepancies=true”
Step 13: Click “Save Profile”
Step 14: Then click “Play” or “Login” to launch the game.
If only “Play Offline” is available, then log out and log in once again to fix it.
How to test Forge?
If you want to make sure if Forge is loading or not, you can check it by seeing it on the bottom left of the Minecraft menu. If you will see “Minecraft Forge XX.XX.XX”, you have installed Forge correctly.
